Treadmaster: costs, sizes, adhesives and alternatives

While we are on the subject of Treadmaster adhesives it may be worth knowing that for small areas (and for other jobs) the waterproof contact recommended by them ,whilst they reformulate their own ,Bostik 2402, is available in 250ml size from CPC .Everywhere else they want to sell you a litre.

Bostik 2402 is what we used on the inshore lifeboats it’s great for sticking any rubber materials and tread master . 2 coats on each face let it go tacky then use a roller to apply pressure. If you ever want to remove then wave a heat gun over it and it’ll peel nice and easy.

Bostick 2402 - "Peels off easy with a heat gun but good you say for Treadmaster" Treadmaster stuck on with that will lift off in very hot UK weather let alone if applied in the tropics, that is why treadmaster use a two pack epoxy type. The treadmaster patches pre glued seem to be ok in the uk out of the direct heat of the sun.

Treadmaster has hitherto offered their own contact adhesive for use in moderate climates but is 'reformulating' at present .Their technical department recommended the 2 part contact 2402 by bostik to me as an alternative.
In fact I've just relaid my cockpit using their epoxy resin but today tried a small piece of treadmaster in a demanding position using 2402 .I'll let you know in due course if it fails.I used it because I may want to remove it in the future and expect this to be easier than chiselling off resin.
Here's the data sheet - interesting to hear of White Socks experience and what Bostik says about temperature .https://www.lomo.co.uk/acatalog/bostik-2402-guide.pdf

Can’t say I’ve experienced it peeling in Uk summer heat but there’s always a chance.
I be used many gallons of it over the years I worked for the RNLI , every fitting on there inshore tubes, self righting air bags and Thames boats is stuck with 2402.

Many months later, I got round to the job.

It certainly was arduous work getting the gluey contact adhesive residue off the gunwales. I used a Bahco scraper, recommended.

I grew bored worrying what might not work, and decided to give the self-adhesive patches their chance without supplementary glue.

I did use a lot of Gorilla tape to maintain adhesion to the curve for the first week after application.

The adhesive seems to be maintaining its grip, but I'm less sure it will survive extended use, given that any slip or rapid movement (common while trapezing) may press the Treadmaster hard away from the edge of the gunwale.

So, I may return here for glue suggestions later. Given how hard most people find shifting Treadmaster, it won't be soon. :)

I'm pleased with how it looks - much nicer than the previous grey Pro-Grip.
