Treadmaster Alternatives

I've got something approximating to treadmaster on my topsides, except instead of chunk diamonds it has smaller, shallower hexagons (or some other 'agon type shape).
Buts it's looking, in patches, rather worse for wear.
Anybody know what it may be and also if it can be scrubbed and painted or is it best to remove it totally and start again?
