Always felt a bit nervous about passing astern of a trawler whilst he has his nets down.
I would think its pretty safe at 100 metres.

If it is then generally yes you should be fine, closer even if you had to, if you follow the wires which enter the water you can see how steep the tow actually is.
Do keep your distance if passing in any other area though, the skipper is working from a tow chart, this will have rocks and other snags marked, he is towing the net through a maze and will turn quickly without warning. If you are in his way then say bye bye to your topsides!
