I am new to the non tidal Thames in winter. With the current warning now starting to fall what are the odds of getting from Radcot lock to Reading before the winter floods set in?

Radcot is quite a long way up and the River does shift a bit up there at all times but the forecast is dry. Extra care needed to not end up in the trees on some of the bends. Keep power on, predict and concentrate.

I think Radcot to K&A is doable next week. Once on the Kennet as others will confirm it is somewhat hazardous.

If the aim is to get onto the canal system I would probably go for the Oxford via Dukes cut in this scenario.

Or the Grand Union at Brentford.

The River in the mid section is still moving but not hazardous and the forecast is positive.

A quick run down the Thames to Brentford would be my preference if the aim is to simply get on the canal for safety during winter but of course there may be geographic limitations.

Thanks for your advice and optimism. I am booked into a marina for some work to be done on the K&A so that’s the destination. As the forecast is looking dry everyone seems to be positive so getting family to help me crew if they are free. Just waiting now for the red boards to be taken down
