Travel Insurance post-brexit for a couple of OAP's

I think its to do with lockdown. :giggle:
Even our postman is grumpy today and him in receipt of my Christmas tip. I didn't ask but I'm thinking he was expecting an increase but as I often say - "a pound is a pound"
Anyway - to the matter in hand. The OP was fairly straightforward and it got a few sensible responses. I think a point comes when enough has been contributed and so instead of just leaving it, for one reason or another - the thread gets banjaxed. We've all done it - well, most of us anyway. It gets better if you use the ignore button a bit because then you are left wondering what was said. In my case it seems to reinforce the reasons for me putting people on ignore. There are 2 on this very thread.

I'm not necessarily suggesting that anyone should travel without travel and/or health insurance, but I just wanted to point out that it's my understand that those eligible for a EU visa waiver (UK citizens from 1/1/21) should not be required to provide insurance details when making an application:

ETIAS Travel Requirements | ETIAS Eligible Countries

as apposed to those who require a Schengen visa where insurance is mandatory:

Schengen Visa: Requirements and Elegible Schengen Countries
I don't see the UK among the list of eligible countries.

Topsail travel policy will cover you in your 70's & for the entire trip on the boat including outside territorial waters.

It also does work as I unfortunately know.

Not cheap in your 70's, but nothing that works is in my view.

If you or you partner are in receipt of a Civil service or certain occupational pensions you can join one of their societies. They offer yearly travel insurance, which covers sailing. Particularly good for oldies, not cheap though.

Possibly because we're still in the transition period at present? I believe that we are going to be eligible for a visa waiver?

Edited to add a link: Brexit: EU agrees three-month visa waiver for Britons
(I do hope that the EU don't change their mind on this one - thing's are bad enough as it is!)

Edited again as I've found a better link! How will ETIAS & Brexit affect UK citizens?

The first link is from April 2019 and the second is based on info from February 2019. Things have moved on a bit since then.

FWIW, all this 90/180 stuff is a pretty poor result from out world-beating negotiators. A Brit can get 9/18 months on a tourist visa.

I don't think that anything has changed on this matter since (at least to my knowledge). This was one of the things that was provisionally agreed quite early on in discussions. The second link actually states 'Last update: October 26th, 2020'.

Quote:/Regrettably Topsail (CA discount partner)and Bishop Skinner (RYA recommendation) both stop at 80. I suspect that both bodies break age discrimination by not arranging cover with other insurers to cover the over 80’s. Have protested to the RYA but got nowhere.
