The locker on the 38 is huge ... I can actually climb in ... but of course no matter how big a space - its always just a touch smaller than what we want to stuff in there !!

My last boat I could fit in the aft locker turn round and come out, I did it every once in awhile to check the interior.
New boat it’s so bloody tight, I have to be extracted if anything goes out of arms reach. Don’t complain about a small stern locker.

Hello Nigel You have obviously had fun cleaning out the locker. Well done. Is that MOB heaving line in the yellow bag? Would be good to have near the top of the junk if it is to be any use at all. Which brings me to the suggestion that you make up a removable basket to it in the top for small or emergency items. So that you lift out the basket to access the lower level. Perhaps keep an inventory list of what is in there. Have fun with the new boat. ol'will

Yes its a Hansa Line .... MOB item. I've tried one years ago .... Let me say - its worth a go - but don't rely on it ....

The line inside is orange rocket line .. very light and floats ... at end is a 'soft weight'.

The black loop goes round wrist .... other throwing hand then throws the bag ... line trails out .....

Great idea - as they all are ... but in practice ??

Its now sitting on top ... first thing you see ..... I may create a mount for it topside ... looks good if nothing else.

On my last sailing boat the aft locker was just like yours. I reached in to get stuff out and was bitten by a woodlouse spider ( I discovered after much googling) hiding under an old warp. It was hanging on to my finger as I jumped out😀. I wore gloves to get the rest of the junk out.
Quite a painful finger for a few days

I'm 5' 6" and short legs ..... trying to get anything from bottom means leaning over and body hard on the locker edge ... it hurts !!

Two reasons I emptied it ...

1. I lost my Mothers wedding ring and was hoping it was in there somewhere. Sadly not.
2. I want to see where to install my Vevor Diesel heater.

Getting rid of crap was side benefit of course.

My locker opens sideways compared to yours hinges on long lid length end so this idea mioght not be so good for you. But for me very successful to attach small items to the lid. In my case tools. Provided they are secured in clips easy to find. Fall out of clips drop in to junk. Try velcro straps or bungee attached to inside of lid. ol'will

We too have a vast aft locker. It’s 8n the cockpit floor. You could lode your granny in there, we have to strictly regulate what’s in there as it’s the daftest place to put weight on our boat. The cockpit tent and cushions, and a bucket. And our shore going shoes, if we’re carrying them.
