I have just upgraded from a Garmin 2010C to a Garmin 5012 plotter. Rather than tediously having to input all my waypoints again, is it possible totransfer them from the one plotter to the other. I have downloaded the points from my 2010 onto a datacard, but it is of a different type to that used on the 5012. I have an interface to my computer for the 2010 datacard and the caed from the 5012 will slot straight in. Can I use the computer to transfer the data or are the formats incompatable?

I suggest you call Garmin support in Southampton.

Dial the main number (023 8052 4000) and ask for marine support. Direct accesss to really knowledgeable people. Free of charge. Not even a premium number.

I downloaded a free program called g7towin for doing this. It was to transfer waypoints between two different Garmins than you mention, but the same issue. It worked ok.

I don't know about the free stuff, but Garmin has a proprietary program - I think it is called Map Source. My CD cost about £25, if I recall.
It lets you put all your waypoints on a PC, and create different lists so you can then transfer them into different GPSs. It also lets you input the waypoints on the computer.
Very easy to use for someone like me who has no chartplotter. Most annoying thing is the cost of the cables from PC to device.
