Currently have an old Seafarer in hull transducer for the depth (Echopilot diode type with digital repeater) and an Airmar through hull for the log (Raymarine i50)
2 problems, possibly 3. 1) the in hull housing leaks so I have to try and re-bed that in, which shouldn't be that difficult; 2) although the echopilot and repeater is Ok in daylight, the repeater fades to invisibility at night with a feeble red light inside; 3) I may have damaged the paddle wheel in the Airmar in removing barnacles although barnacles on the hull more likely reason for inaccuracy.
I reckoned I had 3 options, obviously wanting to limit spend and definitely don't want another hole in the hull. Oh, and I like to keep things simple.
a) do nothing an rely on pictorial position of diode on "clock" at night, which I can just about make out from helm. cheapest option!
b) as chances of getting a replacement repeater for vintage Echopilot are zero, get a new set, either Echopilot Bronze or matching Raymarine i50 (quite expensive for a standalone depth sounder) and connect to existing seafarer transducer( there is a diagram on the Echopilot website describing in hull arrangement and it looks absolutely identical to the instructions for the Seafarer (previous owner kept everything!) so this may well be viable, the Raymarine possibly not.
c) if not, is there not a combined Airmar speed/depth transducer which would fit in existing housing which should drive both (i.e. existing Raymarine log plus new echopilot/raymarine depth?
