Can anyone tell me whether transducers are interchangeable between manufacturers at all? Would I need to completely reinstall transducers/thru-hull fittings etc when I replace my ageing Autohelm ST30 bidata setup, if so how big a job is it?

I'm no expert, but I believe that it is possible to use existing transducers with other equipment.
I think that the depth transducers are the greatest problem, you will need to know what khz your transducer works at and if it matches your new equipment you should be ok.
I used an Actisense DST-2 to link my existing depth transducer to my Navman plotter.

I am also interested in this topic - I was going to ask a question re if a Stowe depth transducer would be compatible with a Raymarine ST 40 Bidata log / depth instrument.

Our Stowe instruments have all died terminally, but they left a legacy in the form of a massive bronze depth transducer set in an even more massive timber fairing - this is much more reassuring than the wee plastic depth transducer that came with the Bidata unit, hence it would be nice if I could use it.

I guess I will just have to wait until Phoenix goes back in the water.
And I suppose if it doesnt, then I could put the plastic Bidata depth transducer next to the wooden block, and bed it down on Blu-tack or epoxy (or immerse it in a tubular oil bath?) as has been suggested I think on this forum before (?).

My previous boat has Raymarine depth, speed and wind transducers fitted but no instruments< I then purchased simrad IS11 instruments and the speed and depth worked perfectly but had to change the wind transducer.

Speed and Depth transducers were Airmar anyway for both
