It being a cold Sunday morning I decide to take a look at the new chandlery at Trago Mills - they have been advertising it to death on Heart FM. Parking was interesting, the shop busy, stocks limited and the prices no cheaper than my usual supplier.

I've not visited Trago for over 20 years and don't expect to return for another 20 years; if I live that long :)

I agree.

Their antifoul has always been top dollar and there is a poor range of other stuff.

You can make a useful saving on rope for halyards. It does tend to go pale and scraggy but seems to maintain it's strength.

Cheaper than Barry Boatropes, who has just charged me £34.20 for 36 metres of new 10mm mainsheet? Which will, if it's anything like the other stuff I've ordered from him, be of excellent quality and not go pale and scraggy?

TM are a waste of space when it comes to there chandlery section. Seems that every five or six years they try and revive it by buying in
lots of stock then let it run down. Last time in Falmouth there stock was pathetic to say the least. Don't know why they bother.

Bought one of their own brand leisure batteries cos it was cheap.
In performance it was the same as the car battery it replaced ie. no good for cranking and domestic use.

Then I bought a proper hybrid battery , it's been fine for 4 years now.

Give Trago a miss...go to Macsalvors in Redruth, they have a great Chandlery section. They even sell ferry chain and heavy duty boat covers etc. If you don't buy boat stuff..I'm sure you will buy something else..!

Which hybrid battery did you buy?

Only been there a couple of times when on holiday in Devon, bought a small shackle which I use as a key ring and its lasted well !

There were plans to build one in Merthyr opening in 2012 but its get to be done .. think it may wildlife why its not been done yet - part of big development!

Cheers

Trago Chandlery is really not worthy of the name and the prices are certainly nothing to shout about but the Macsalvors main store at Redruth is a dangerous emporium of wonders! I went in on Friday to see if they did battery cables and came out with a whistling kettle, a roll of hatchseal, a hole saw and a ferkin' hat! :(

Trago Mills...................Aaargh :( Hate the place!

Trago Mills got a great deal happening.........

I was taken to one of their stores by my parents almost every other weekend as a child.

Having lived away from the West Country now for 25 years I find myself actually missing the place. Tacky, I agree but a West Country institution like no other.

Here in the Med we only have Plato Mills...... ;)
