Trip before last there were shouts from a woman on the pontoon opposite. Her husband was in the water, he had stepped backwards without looking and in he went. It was midday and we soon helped him to his sugar scoop. The big issue there is that there doesn't seem to be ladders on the pontoons to get out easily, they are on the main concrete piers but they can be 50 mtrs or so away.

Ive lost count of the number of people we hoicked out of the water in Marina Bay over the years. The refined technique is to untie any fender, get the swimmer to hold onto it and tow them to the nearest stern ladder. Then the fun begins if they are a bit pi$$ed and sometimes a bit stroppy!

I haven't yet fallen in but my wife has at least 3 times when squiffy. There may be more times but my memory may be even more fuzzy. Two of the times were anchored in a bay when stepping off the dinghy which sounds more dangerous but actually totally relaxed in warmish waters and a giggly climb up the stern ladder. The one that concerned me was against the harbour wall in Symi when she fell off the plank and hurt herself on the ladder as she hit the stern and went completely under in darkness. Fortunately she surfaced a few seconds later and was up the ladder and in the cockpit (having bruised herself badly and lost her glasses) before I'd worked out was had just happened. That could have been very ugly if she had banged her head.
