Trader 51
New Member
Hi
New to the site but looking for advice. I'm in the process of negotiating on the purchase of a 1996 Trader 51, in very good overall condition. I have three areas of concern which I have highlighted to the surveyor for survey and sea trial but I thought I'd ask the forum for any info, any thoughts gratefully received.
1 there is slight cracking around the base to the rib crane which can be seen from underneath on the after deck fibreglass deck awning, is this balsa cored ?
2 There is water staining underneath the rear corner of the after saloon windows, not much but it has discoloured the maple veneer, are the upper works balsa cored has anyone else had this problem and what have you done.
3 A number of the screws are now proud on the forward teak decking, where this has happened they appear to have been epoxied, there is no sign of any leak to the forward cabin but again, has anyone else had this, is the forward deck balsa cored. The shipwright says they need to be removed and countersunk and re epoxied, and plugged which I agree with but has anyone else had this problem and has it caused long term problems with the deck structure ?
Aside from this, the boat is great but would welcome advice prior to purchase.
Regards H
