There we were yesterday, anchored off Lee watching the Trafalgar Day stuff when a large Sunseeker, up wind and up tide of us comes at us sideways at about 1 knot, engines running but anchor dragging and slams into our bow causing considerable damage before drifting off to hit no doubt more yachts on her way down the Solent.

Of course, they didn't return nor answer any calls on the VHF. We got the name of the boat, MAD MAX and beleive she's from Poole.

Any idea how we track her down to sort the insurance? Luckily we have the whole incident on video... though obviously we're hoping we'll find them and their insurers will pay.

Different situation but I had a similar problem last year. Three boats damaged, witnesses and we knew which boat had done it. He still denied it though! In the end his insurance company paid up without his approval.

This may be a start to trace the ********

www.itu.int/cgi-bin/htsh/mars/ship_search.sh#start Just enter the name and it comes up with a few "Mad Max's". Some are yachts, some are Mobo's. It may help.

If you can get a picture from the video onto the forum others may be able to identify it.

Good luck with it.

Thanks guys, have already looked on the ITU site but can't get any contact details.

Sunseeker know the boat but, understandably won't give out the owner's details but are happy to do do to the police.

Actually that's a great idea about looking for the SSR number of the video but it was such a big boat I don't think we'll have much luck.

I hope this guy is trying to find us to make amends - if not, I think there's a good case for criminal damage or reckless endangerment against him.

I'm totally against compulsory training but I'm afraid when you get idiots in power boats who have no idea how to anchor and even less idea about the effects of wind and tide and cause this sort of damage (which increases all our premiums) the case for it is ever stronger...

If she is from Poole ............ a copy of the video + full details etc. to Poole Police should be enough to sniff the 'culprit' out.

Sorry to hear of your damage.

If it's the same boat i've quite often seen it in yarmouth at the weekends. Sorry cant help with the owners details just a raggie who is a secret SunnySeaker spotter.

/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Sounds like he's a bit of a D!ck. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Hope you boat is not too damaged that you cant have any enjoyment out of it over the summer.

Try posting on MoBo forum too.

Yup I'm aware of this one too. it's not a sunseeker and it has a permenant mooring just as you come in on the white piles. Not the one i was thinking of.

How about IDIOTS in yachts who have no idea how to anchor...... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

He's had his boat damaged in a hit and run incident.

I think most MOBO's will be wanting to help and maybe trace the culprit. I don't think it's the right time to be raising the MOBO v Raggie debate.

If you are based down that way an offer to keep your eyes open for the boat would be more appropriate. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Hold on a minute. Shouldn't you be directing your critisism at rogerroger? He's the one generalising, I just showed it happens on both sides of the fence.

Take your blinkers off /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

funnily enough, it was a sunnyseeker that came barrelling along my port side as he was trying to get in his berth ahead of me a couple of weeks ago.......

If you don't understand the point there's little point in explaining it to you.

I just hope that if, somebody damages your boat, that others respond more helpfully to your problem than you seem prepared to do. It's in cases like this that people can be doing something to take down the fence that you seem to think exists and are determined to keep up.

So, if you you are in the area, are you going to keep your eyes open for MAD MAX?
