Some years ago, in Mahon, used a small inflatable to push a 45' HR across the harbour for refuelling - yacht owner had run his tanks dry. Pushed onto stern of HR & moved quite easily - controlled direction by steering yacht.
Yes the boatman has tried it in inflatable tenders/ ribs/ solid workboats. I'm afraid that you don't seem to have read the original post corectly i.e. towing a large yacht that has no rudder with a small inflatable.
I regularly tow 30' dragons with a small inflatable c/w 5hp engine ~ no problems because the tender is only supplying power, the control comes from the dragons rudder and speed through the water! But trying to do the same thing when the dragon has no rudder is completely different.
I'm not quite to sure where I introduced a north / south devide in my post?
Maybe you're feeling insecure?
Peter.
PS
Only this morning I have been towing/moving some "Walcon" pontoon sections that are 12 mtrs long x 5 mtrs wide c/w 6 rather large square floats, you know the type used in marina's ~ just trying to push them was no joke. I used a Cox 22' workboat with a single Yanmar 3YM30 engine in and was able to position them accurately enough for them to be connected to an existing pontoon, which by the way is in a tidal river not a marina?
