Towing folkboat?

I think that landies can go over 3500kg if you fit air brakes to the trailer- but it only gives you another 500kg or something, if I remember correctly.

Yes, I wasn't disagreeing with the equations, just the confusion over the slight difference in definition of "kerb" and mass in running order".

On pre 1997 Disco's and Defenders you could tow 5000kg with coupled (Air) brakes. At the time I did consider it, but ultimately decided against it due to probable salt water damage to the trailer. I havent looked at it since, but i'm sure the trailer laws of 1998 have now precluded this option anyway.

My '98 Disoc 300TDi handbook says I can go up to 4000Kg with modified brakes. The limit for a 50mm ball is 3.5Te too, you need a pin and eye above that.
 
My '95 Discovery with uprated rear towing springs pulled my Folkboat on a trailer with no problems as long as speed was kept under 50mph.Never had to use the low ratio box at all.Are you looking for a commercial outfit to tow you or some guy with a Discovery for mates rates! If commercial i would recommend Mike from MJS Boat Transport.He charged £250 to tow boat from Edinburgh to Glasgow before i had a Discovery so would guess Cambletown to Wick could be quite a lot more expensive.Wonder what Wick is like in the Summer,must get up there sometime??
 
Many commercial drivers I've seen are a tad more :D

Apologies thrown his number away. He works mainly for marinas and picks up private stuff for any return trips, £1.50 per mile, very good, may be able to track him down from a yacht brokers in Bangor who recommended him to me - his name is Paul! Will try and track brokers down, there is only one in Bangor.

She looks great Ben ;) It's a lovely boat, I miss her interior and workmanship. Mine was more money for half the boat and is a project with a previous poor DIY owner. The interior is still a real mess but I'm halfway there and the rest is coming on. It's been a lot of hard work getting her ready for a Rally but I met the deadline and spent 5 great days in her (in calm harbour waters of course :rolleyes:).

She suits me perfectly though and will keep her for many years :)
