Umm. I was thinking of pottering in a generally Scottish sort of direction, but if the place is going to be full of Spectator readers, as well as midges, perhaps I should think again?
So this thread is working… :ROFLMAO:

Though as a YBW reader, you’d be made very welcome. (y)

I used to see a boat anchor off Gruinard Beach, under by Froach Eilean. And a few cheeky so-and-sos used to use my mooring in Mill Bay. You KNOW who you are.........;)
And some intrepid voyagers used to sail all the way past into Loch Broom and Ullapool. Quite disturbed the peace and tranquillity of "The Land of No Storms" :ROFLMAO:

I miss you all and hope you enjoy that wonderful sailing area.

Fair Winds and kind waters to you all (especially Gin 'n' Pizza)

Recent trip up to encounter the Orcadian lifestyle for an entire week, by car.
Leaving southern latittudes in the blistering heat of mid August, it started raining somewhere around Northumberland and continued to rain with different amounts of mist and fog to break the boredom for the entire rest of the journey.
Pretty certain that there was a notable bridge and mountains out there somethere on our trip up the A9 but we were simply grateful to be able to see the road in front.
We did spot the fence at the end of our hosts garden once or twice when the weather eased a little.
Basically the Isles were closed for the duration.
On the day of our escape the weather had cleared and the wind had come up, this ensured the trip back on the ferry was spectacular, (23 knots), briefly revealing everthing that the area had to offer.
The rain/mist started again a few hours laters and you could watch the car temperature gauge rise as you drove back south ,a good 10C .
Even the midges were away learning to do the breast stroke, we saw nary a sign.

Which brand of midge repellent do the Scots recommend?

Best Midge repellant? Staty in the Solent - far better sailing than on the West Coast & you can keep your anchor clean and avoid smelly chain lockers. ?

Although if you do come up, Smidge (not Avon) for putting on your skin and Spraying some Permethrin on your shoes / trousers when out walking should reduce the number of ticks you get on you. Best bring some tick tweezers too - I've a few packets of o'tom tick twister's on the boat, car etc for the inevitable few that do latch on to you.
