Been doing a lot of research on this and the only reason i can see why it's done is for neatness, especially if you have your lines led aft but mine are at the mast? I did quite fancy the idea when it was mentioned but fitting a conduit for the wiring will be a right pain so not going to bother. The mast exit also seems to create an extra friction point.
