i have gone and over tightened the dip stick on our Hurth HBW 250, with the result that the alloy sheath has threaded. I am attempting to find a solution through professional means, but with little success at the moment. Ideally, i would like to know if the sheath can be removed and replaced by knocking (gently) a new one back in, all without removing the gearbox.
if anyone has a suggestion on how to proceed, i'm all ears.

Little old Italian lady enters a lift in a VERY upmarket city apartment store. Just before the doors close two VERY upmarket young women also enter the lift. Doors close.

In an effort to be friendly the little old lady compliments the young ones on how good they smell.

First one in a VERY Lah Di Dah voice sneers "Govinchey Allure. £150 per ounce."

Scond one in a VERY VERY Lah Di Dah voice sneers "Channel number 45. £200 per once.

The little old lady feels very put down and hangs her head.

The doors open at the little old lady's floor. Just as she is leaving the lift she raises one leg and farts. "Spinich. 25p per pound." She grins as the doors close behind her.

If it's the dipstick that's been stripped, is it possible to tap a new thread onto the dipstick and put a helicoil into the hole? If it's the block then it could be carefully reamed out and a helicoil of the same thread as the original inserted. Easier said than done, and if it were me I I'd have to get a grown up to do it properly. If you can't insert a helicoil and modify it so you can still insert the dipstick, then you could try making a sleeve with an internal thread, drilling out the block to fit it and glueing or screwing it in. Isn't that what they do on cars when you do the same to a spark plug?
Hope this helps.

Dear Dave,

thanks for this, very much appreciated. Unfortunetly, i wish it was the dip stick, that would be a lot easier to deal with. No, it's the thread sheath the stick screws into. Excuse my limeted knowledge, but what is a helicoil?

thanks for the advise, i think it will be the only way to go.

Julian
