I didn't mention the previous owner registered the boat for Part 1 there was a wooden plaque with the registration number carved into the wood on the front bulkhead. The document gives the Tonnage as 15.35. The OP did ask about tonnage for Part 1, so I did understand the question and have answered it.

Oh dear. Please stop now. Actual weight is NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Part I registered tonnage.

As others have tried to explain, Part I registration 'tonnage' is calculated by a surveyor (not the owner or anyone else) measuring the hull with a tape measure, and derives from an ancient way of taxing ships according to how many 'tun' barrels of wine or herrings they could carry (honest - I'm not joking).

The Registrar of Shipping issues rules for how the surveyor is to measure the hull. Often it roughly corresponds with weight, but there may be very wide variations. No weight is ever measured when calculating registered tonnage.

Measuring boat weight in a boat lift is an excellent way of finding out the approximate actual weight of the boat - it is however completely un-needed, irrelevant and useless for putting a yacht or a ship on part I of the UK Register of Shipping.

The OP asked about a tonnage survey in order to register the boat on Part 1:-

Hi all, I’m seeking some advice from anybody who has been in a similar situation.

We are currently in the process of buying a Belgian flagged boat in Italy and once we have deregistered her in Belgium we will put her on Part 1 in the UK. Before the Belgian registry in 2007 she was on Part 1 and SSR will she still need a new tonnage survey? I have contacted the MCA but not received any reply yet, has anybody else had a similar situation?

The boats’ location means that a new tonnage survey will require a surveyor to be flown in and I know from the purchase survey how much that costs!

The lift that puts you on the hard measures tonnage you could use one of those.

This is incorrect ! The boat lift will give you the actual weight of the boat, which is equal to the displacement.

The "registered tonnage ," required for Part one, is basically the internal capacity of the vessel; a registered ton being 100 cubic feet of internal measurement.

You clearly do not understand what is meant by "registered tonnage",
