Yeah I am hoping to take my boat to the med when its finally done, so cant imagine not finding a solution to fit a holding tank in there somehow. The composition may be the same, but the consistency is very different. The output from a marine toilet disperses quickly and will be undetectable within a few minutes, with any unfriendly microbiology diluted to safe levels, at least in, eg the Solent, where the water is changed by the management twice a day. In a Mediterranean bay with no tide, however, a holding tank is a good idea (legal requirement?)
Bit how do you work the rest out? Its still shit and paper. Whether in clumps or bits is pretty irrelevant. A marine heads simply forces waste out of a pipe straight into the sea. There is no attempt in one to sanitise the waste in any way. Not to mention, that many folks with heads will be putting bleach down them to clean them. Far worse in the sea than compostable waste.
I think we all agree that disposing of toilet waste in bays and harbours and near swimming beaches is not a nice thing.
I dont think that there is any environmental or virtue kudos to be had in using one over a bucket though. Just privacy and comfort
