The Tohatsu 9.8 two stroke I have had for five years and which has been 100% reliable is now looking a bit tired, and I want to replace it with something a bit pokier. A Yam 15hp two stroke is the obvious solution, however I am tempted by another Tohatsu, 18hp two stroke, but have heard stories of unreliability, admittedly of engines used/abused on rented sports craft. Much obliged if there is there anyone out there in the know.

tohatsu seen as a bit budgety against yamaha. My yam 15 gets remarks of "is it a 4 stroke?" whereas tohatsus sound like a bag of nails.

Reliability wise, changing sparks plus and using the thing daly if poss for more than a hundred yards or so makes a big difference imho.

Either way, the add-on find actually work. I thought it was rubbish, but not so.
