Any one have any recommendations for lifejackets to suit 16 month old toddlers, i am planning on taking the twins sailing with me this year for the first time.
My 2 kids used to wear crewsaver bouyancy jackets and they never seemed too complain. Thinks to watch out for when choosing for small childen are lots of bouyancy for their head, their heads tend to be too big for their body at that age, and thigh straps. You don't want they falling through the jacket if they do go in.
When mine were that age I had trouble buying secure buoyancy aids/lifejackets small enough. Made them really well-fitting home-made harnesses instead (no buoyancy) and just made sure they were tethered on longish lines.
One fell in once. Pulled him back in on the end of the string, spluttering and squealing. Didn't do it again....
Things have moved on a bit since ours were that age.I think that precautions against them going swimming are also important. We used old car seats in the cockpit and below and created playpens in the l;eeward bunk with canvas lee cloths etc. Its hard work but worth it.
our youngest was 6 weeks old when he first went cruising.
