No pictures, no voyage but did at least get to my tiny boat at Lechlade. Even getting aboard has been difficult in recent weeks due to the flooding. The river was fast and high today but much less so than recently. Achieved the following:
* Established that no obvious damage has occurred and that lines and fenders are all o.k.
* Got the 2013 'plate' in the windscreen so am legal at last.
* Returned the empty Porta Potti cassette to where it belongs, following it's Christmas holiday in the back garden, (out of sight).
* Emptied the saucepan which collects rainwater from the still leaking window.
* Noted the mildew in the cabin but relived to see how easily it was wiped off.
* Took my five year old son who seemed genuinely excited about getting back on the boat.
* Had a bit of a dream about summer trips with the boy.
* Let the boy poke about in the lockers where he found things for him, e.g. Fruit Shoot drinks and a bit of Lego. He seemed very impressed that I'd put them there ages ago and seemed to take a further step towards seeing boating as something we can have fun doing together. I've been careful not to push it on him.
There have been moments in the past month or so when I've wondered if my tiny boat would have as much attention this year. Today's trip makes me realise I'm still completely hooked and junior may be getting there too. Roll on the spring - surely the weather's got to be better this year?
