Gas canisters are cheap option. Some don't last long tho. Ori go for me, came with my boat but, a big cost difference for you betwixt both. Safety on either is negligible IMHO.
To Origo or not that is the question!

I'm of the opinion that something about spirit cookers gives a false positive on CO monitors. But only when boiling a kettle!

CO detectors are prone to false alarms if there are alcohol fumes around. It may be that the cold bulk of a kettle cools the flame and lets a significant quantity of unburned alcohol escape.

Additional interfering gases of similar molecular size and chemical reactivity may produce false positive response. Major interferents that can affect CO detectors are acetylene, dimethyl sulfide, ethyl alcohol, ethylene, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen sulfide, isopropyl alcohol, mercaptan, methyl alcohol, propane, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide.

swapping my 2 ring gas burner out for a Origo 3000 this week, got a brand new one for £85 so a no brainer. can't wait to get rid of the gas bottle and stove, one less thing to tick off the exit check list. Every time a use the stove I always get a slight sniff of the odour additive added to the gas and it always has me checking the valve and stove. Always store the bottle in the chain locker, so a little bit of less rust marks as well. only used cooker for a brew and 2 pot meals so I cant see its worth the worry to keep on with the gas.

I am a big fan of the Origo twin burner, which we have been using for about 10 years. This year we switched to bioethanol. It seems to burn more powerfully and does not evaporate as readily as meths.
We make toast using one of these (needs a bit of practice):

As stated above, with the addition of an Omnia oven, on you can cook most things. I regularly make bread in it. It is also excellent for reheating food.
The Origo has its foibles, which can be overcome with experience.

I've the Origo 6000 onboard, which after the initial pain of passing for it (ouch), has entirely won me over during the past month of living aboard. It doesn't smell, the oven gets hot enough for 'made onboard' pizzas, and it's safe. The only problem I had was putting in paraffin instead of bio when I didn't pay attention to the similar containers, which made it smoke a bit whilst I burnt it off during a stay in Helmsdale. Apologies to that pleasant village of course!

After a month of using my my new Origo 3000 for weekends:
Very pleased, faster than my knackered old gas stove, the smell is not an issue at all with french alcohol stuff but is I suppose noticeable with meths, removed 7kgs of gas bottle weight, time to boil is not an issue at all, heat control looks primative but in fact it works really well, solved a load of problems so I can concentrate on sailing instead.

I have had an origo 2 ring burner for 18 years and would not go back to gas.
The cooker is much older than that but still cleans up nicely.

Inherited an Origo 2 burner on the boat, intially i was not impressed having always had gas when we camped for 20 plus years, intention had been to replace with gas.
I have to say it has grown on me and i have just this weekend changed over from white meths to Bio Ethanol, there was a real fumey smell if there was no ventilation, i liked to have the forehatch open but cant really do that underway. The Bio is a significant improvement on that very little smell. So i will stick with the Origo and use Bio.
Best place for Bio is B & Q 3 x 2lt bio ethanol on offer for £13, no signs up in store but should come up as discounted at the till, just dont tell everyone lol

sorry it was a new one on Gum tree, there are plenty on amazon for £127
ps really getting on well with it on bio fuel, boils a full kettle in five mins used old kimble from gas cooker so happy days
