I would be grateful for advice on a problem with my TMP/ type1200 /twin pinion
gearbox. The gearbox is 22 years old and operates perfectly xcept when going
astern where it appears to take ages (seems like hours but more like 10 seconds)
to engage . This problem is getting worse and is now making making my normal
'passable' boat handling skills look v.poor indeed in the confines of the 'Costa'Marinas. I have tried oil/filter changes (oil pressure is 95psi) taken out and examined the control valve with no effect. There appears no stiffness in the
prop shaft in either direction and the box runs at normal temperature with no
apparent 'slippage' once engaged.
Therefore-before I resort to my old 'whit.' spanners and 2lb hammer --I would be
grateful for guidence. ( may-be which bit to hit first)
