TMBA

I have to admit John, you do seem to be jumping on just about anyone who posts as a new user lately. This worries me, as you're starting to make the core of this forum look like a group of people intolerant of other peoples points of view. I'm sure these attacks are also doing nothing for TMBA's image.

I know you always distance yourself by saying your views do not represent anyone other than yourself, but the fact that you always attack people who question the TMBA is starting to make you look like nothing more than an attack-dog. I'm sure many members whose posts I used to enjoy reading have stopped posting due to this.

Personally, I couldn't care less whether a new member is a supporter of TMBA, ATYC, both or niether, it'd be nice to have a few more people on this forum who can structure an arguement without reverting to Ad hominem...

Then if that is indeed the case, I'm happy to offer my full and sincere apologies to all concerned, if that is satisfactory.

I regret to admit that I had to look up the exact meaning of "ad hominem", but thank you, rebellion, for so competently articulating a response that most of us 'oldies' would have been proud to construct.

I must admit that these occasional - but all too frequent - eruptions concern me greatly and you are right to point out that they do little to help the TMBA's image. Unfortunately, my own presence here on the forum and my known involvement with the TMBA leads many to believe that they are one and the same, even though I go to considerable lengths to separate the two in my personal postings.

I would prefer not to have to distance myself from the forum - as many of you know it was I that requested YBW to set it up initially and I enjoy being here - but if I have to do so in the best interests of the TMBA, I will, albeit reluctantly, do so.

John - thank you for your apology. I hope it will be accepted by all in the way I know it is intended.

I think our friend John shows autistic/asberges tenancies, eg. doesn't acknowledge or appreciate that his tone and wording is negative or often abusive.

Personally I find the forum very dull when John is not around and look forward to his outbursts...

Brightens up my day to know there are folks out there that really dont give a ****.

(am I the only one that thinks "Concerned" is a lockie...)

As someone with a very close relative with apsergers you are irritating me now - looks like your handle was well named!

I said it because I have a family member with aspergers , and have grown to know and understand the behavioural traits associated with the condition.

Sorry my post does seem quite rude actually, i'll apologize to John here.

No more posts, i'm off to arrange some reparations to my boat.

No need to apologise, I'm taking this one on the chin!

It was the Gin talking, so no hard feelings Glasgow Bull!

:)

I have as much passion as most of you for the river , beleive it or not.

I only want the best for our wonderful playground.

Perhaps we can all get along now .

Yes; please.

There are enough problems looming with Inland Waterways at the moment, intemperate bickering only drives people away, when "we" should be focusing on these challenges.

I can understand why folks get easily wound up. There have threads on here from time to time where people have posted with what appears later in the discussion to contain a hidden agenda. Seeing that they are getting nowhere they get somewhat abusive and disappear.

Naturally the stalwarts here try to nip matters in the bud - so when a newbie appears with a hot potato, the alarm bells start to ring.

Self defence.

However, onlookers see it as too contentious and move away.

That's a great shame.

Boaters in general need support from all and sundry - including the silent majority. Otherwise "the authorities" will ride roughshod over our needs and aspirations.

I can this beginning to happen with the canal system - faced with a huge cut in their funding, which is going be incredibly hard to replace by volunteers and donations.

Let's focus on finding as many ways as possible to stop this happening on the River which most of us declare to be a passion..

Fred drift again.

In my years on the water i have to say that i have encountered mostly both extremes of the spectrum, and rarely little in between.

You tend to get the types who believe they belong to an exclusive niche club, and are quite closed minded / elitist and arrogant.

At the other end you get very down to earth people , who are in it as a lifestyle , rather than an ego related , and always friendly and open to newcomers.

I would like to see more of the latter, and I believe that in being open minded and welcoming, you can strengthen your cause no end.

The lack of funding and political will towards improving the waterways, needs to be reversed with more people to raise awareness and join the ranks.

Which is the whole point of the TMBA. It is open to all boaters, you don't have to be a club member first. The whole idea is to represent all motor boaters and put their views to the EA and other representative bodies.

Best of all it is free to join and be a member!

"Are these people Sportscruiser owners? "

Oi.......lay off.
They have quite enuff to contend with already as apart from being tucked up with a boat resulting from a nasty collision of a tent shop and an unstable giant soap dish completely unuseable for 364 days of the year and being totally impractical for just about anything and everything involving boating and human beings.

The finest hour of any sportsboat was basically the time spent gleaming in the showroom,it is all broken promises after that.
Wibble Wobble Wibble Wobble wandering along all over the place like a demented bee and thats before a butterfly claps its wings and the resulting breeze causes the boat to head off wildly in some other random direction other than the desired one. :):):)
