tips for a dog onboard

We took dogs on the boat when they were young, but they would never, ever pee or poo on it. This means they need taking to shore regularly. One of my lasting memories is of small, hairy faces with very bad breath whining at me at close range at 3am. No one else volunteered to get up and take them out.
The boat is my idea although thankfully my wife has embraced the idea so probably only fair I get the job of taking her for her business but thankfully her hours are normally pretty sociable

Find a good kennels.

Sorry but I am not keen on dogs on boats. At least humans vomit into a bucket 95% of the time or can clean the hull, dogs can't tell you the are feeling sea sick.

I'm an ex-owner of a working Border Collie.
I appreciate your suggestion and have given it lots of consideration as we know it will be alien for her but we will not be venturing beyond the river while she is on board and she is not a fan of Kennels

The life jacket for a dog IMHO, is not about them be able to swim, it is about being able to recover them should the fall in off the boat, quay, pontoon etc. Our dog's life jacket has a large loop on it so at least it might be possible to get a boat hook through it, tie a lanyard on it etc. We try to transfer the lead from the collar to the loop as on quays, pontoons etc. We attach a bungey to it when sailing if he is up on deck.
