Tinea Cruris - crutch rot

Has anyone tried Vick's Vaporub to cure fungal disease? I read about it on the web and tried it when Lamisil failed to cure my toe-nail fungus (tinea unguium). It took several months, but a morning and evening application of Vicks eventually worked. When I saw a skin specialist I was embarrassed to admit that I had used Vicks, and expected to be pooh-poohed, but she confirmed that Vicks will do the job. "My grandmother swears by it," she said.
Vicks has at least two advantages over Lamisil: 1. It's much cheaper; 2. Your toes will never suffer coughs and wheezes.
I imagine it would be just as effective on all the fungi in the tinea range.

I have reservations about sharing this

and it probably counts as over-sharing

but I am now recovered

and in the hope that it might help others

I have been a sailor for many years - although I have never spent as much time on a boat as I did this summer

as a kid I used to get terrible athletes foot so I obviously have poor resistance.

this autumn I started getting itchy nether regions and one patch on my leg just beneath the top of the welly

apparently it is this....or a derivative

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinea_cruris

a fungal infection that is common among sailors and loves sailing club showers

it likes nice warm moist places such as inside sailing wellies and bineath salopettes

it also likes the owner to spend a lot of time sitting on wet decks

the quack says I am not the first bloke to report a problem

excercise bikes in gyms too

this stuff seems to kill it with diligent three times a day application

Unlike you not to accompany a post without a video Dylan !!!!!!

Definitely from marina showers. I caught it at Gravelines. The shower block was next to a gypsy camp, and as a precaution the whole building was sealed hermetically, iron gridwork as well. Every morning, a council worker would come, and hose down the cubicles and wooden gratings. No drying the place however, just closing everything off immediately. Three weeks of using Daktarin cream sorted it.
I wrote to complain to the municipality. Very probably a coincidence, but next year, the whole outfit was refurbished.

Rub it vigorously in to the affected nether region area, it won't fix the problem but it will make you feel better, and doctors say it won't affect your eyesight.
Sorry Dylan but someone was going to say it.

Wash the affected area with Nisoral antifungal shampoo leaving it to work for 5mins (over the counter version). It also cures chronic dandruff (of the scalp!) which none of the usual so called anti dandruff shampoos cure.

You only need repeat the treatment 2 or 3 times per year.

Sommar 2013 in northern waters seems to have been a good year for TC-could it have been the high humidity, from constant rain or whatever, coupled with cold strong winds, then boiling hot Baltic days ending in thunderstorms meaning mid layers/salopettes were worn most days, clothes and boats never drying out properly.
Even wearing shorts underneath did not help ventilation. Over the counter Boots Dual Action Athletes Foot Cream actually did better than the Candestan GP prescribed.

Foot infections can be reduced by wearing shower clogs/flipflops-I always do for any multiuser or communal showers-learnt that in my rugby days. AND wearing those Teva water 'caligulii' style sandals on the feet rather than deckies-sunlight and fresh air to the toesy woosies kept my toe gaps clear, but somehow fungus got into some toenails-Boots paint on treatment with a brush works best.

Nice to know I'm not the only one to suffer :encouragement:

What a lot of weird old men (assumption) you are. Whatever next, piles?

probably a perfectly reasonable assumption

and one day my son..... when you are an old but still active bloke and you sit on your bike or on a wet side deck and feel uncomfortable it might be a great compensation to you to know that it is can be cured by a dollop of the correct cream.

I was very happy to share my experience - I had no idea that this thread might be longer than some t about wells, anchors or flags

perhaps we need a internationally recognised flag for marinas that are infested. I shall be more careful next year about where I hang my towell and drop my keks

Any body tried Patio Magic on their foot rot or knob rot.

I notice one of our tubes of foot rot cream contains benzalkonium chloride, the active ingredient of Patio Magic
