Timely reminder; Three Men in Another Boat:

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

Watching part 2 now - very entertaining but also frustrating. Lovely pics of Solent and Ark R etc.

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

Last few seconds.....piece to camera....serious offers to GRJ!

Do I win the coconut....? Well? Well??

Is this BBC product placement ( advertising ) at its best, or.... or.....

Silly ol' cynic me!

Nah, still think you're missing the point. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Major gear failure with the spinny up, comment from O'Briain along the lines of "things always break on old boats".

No further questions, M'Lud. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

I warmed to Dara in this adventure. He seemed to get into it whereas Rory seemed to throw his dummy out.
I reckon Griff's shouting was especially for the camera.

Can't imagine such nice shots of a Bene with a lee rail awash. That's what older boat are built for.

Re: Griffs shouting

Sounded like every skipper I've crewed for, where as when I'm skipper its always please, thankyou, would you mind, would you mind steering for a bit we are approaching the windward mark with 10 boats on starboard and I think you all deserve a nice mug of tea after all that water on the uphill side

Kindly indulge me.

What the faaaaark ( is that spelled write, Susy? ) are you on about? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It's not a really old boat, and doesn't everyone break things on a race?

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

IMHO (heehee), BB dearest, the number of 'aaa's depends on depth of feeling, exasperation, horror, despair, etc.

And I've defnitly lorst the plot with this strand of the thread anyway ...

[/ QUOTE ] Late night bletherings (late night comes quite early round our neck of the woods).

The only proper race I've ever done is the RTI and - on one occasion - the Mainsheet Traveller fell apart on a 3 year old Victoria 34. Which, um, proves yer point I suppose /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

Missed part 1 as the TV reception in South Dock was rubbish but thoroughly enjoyed part 2. Beautiful boat too. I worry that Dara and Rory were there to represent "everyman" and were sripted to be badly behaved, I was a bit underwhelmed by the loud shirt in the yacht club scene, one of those times where good manners might have encouraged conformity to dress expectations?

[ QUOTE ]
It's meant as entertainment,

[/ QUOTE ]

It certainly succeeded in that for me. Great couple of hours telly and very amusing antics during the race. I really did feel sorry for the ladies though. They were on a hiding to nothing getting dragged in to that scenario. I think I would have totally lost it with Rory McGrath, useless lump. Only race dinghies (double handed) but still recognise the symptoms of early humour loss as things go pear shaped.

Thanks, Beeb, for some relief from the normal dross!

Yes, thanks Beeb and Griff, thoroughly entertaining. I would like to see a programme of "To the Baltic with Bob" perhaps now beeb will commision a return trip/series?

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

'Spose you're right...

The best place ( sshhh.... IMHO! ) for late-night bletherings is securely at anchor in some undisturbed spot, a bottle of something rare from Islay, a couple of friends and a trio of glasses. oh, and a Taylors' heater hissing away in the corner, while the rain rattles on the windows and the bows tug now and then at the rock-solid anchor cable....

I thought it was kinda funny - but then I've got a thing about 'dress codes'.
Who are they inviting? Me or my wardrobe?
If they want me, they can take me whichever way I'm dressed. (only exceptions weddings & funerals).
