Timely reminder; Three Men in Another Boat:

Yes, he said it was what he'd spent on varnishing, hence rather tongue in cheek. I've recorded it, so can transcribe his exact words if necessary.

The later comments about the value of the boat by the two 'crew' were about what he'd bought the boat for, not what he'd spent on it subsequently.

That won't be necessary but thanks for pointing that out otherwise I may have thought he was serious. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I wasn't pointing it out to you (as you recalled correctly, and was agreeing with you), but to the others on many threads that are discussing pricing.

While we are picking holes: they go aground in the East Swale, (who hasn't) but we are then told: no worries the tide is rising. I can't believe that anyone with GRJ,s experience would leave there on the flood when bound for Dover. As has been said, nice to watch, and great to see mates' boats in the background, but not to be taken seriously.

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

Y'know, it's not just any old boat owner that can get Auntie Beeb to fund the 'for sale' advertising for his huge-money-hole-in-the-water toy, to the tune of 2 complete, 1-hour, prime time commercials. And a national debate about the likely price, too. How many million potential 'viewers' did that advertorial go out to....? And just before the London Boat Show, too.

Serious creative advertising, that. Wouldn't surprise me if it won a prize at Annecy 2008

I'm betting he'll have a list of serious inquirers as long as your arm, and no brokerage to pay! No wonder that young broker chap was looking sick around the gills!

Way to go, Griff! That's show biz!

Curse you CW - you have revealed my secret identity to the rest of the forum - your invite to the Scuttlebutt Clyde Cruise just might get lost in the post!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

BB, the new year is less than 2 days old, and already you're a contender for "Cynic of the Year"....

Re: Timely reminder \"Offers Invited I.R.O\"

Not sure that this will work. Don't know if you've read "To the Baltic with Bob" but he goes on, at great length, about the leakiness of the decks and the fact that things keep going wrong at a faster rate than he can repair them. Not exactly an incentive to buy.

She is a thing of great beauty but - even armed with his spending power - I'm not sure she's a liability I'd want to take on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think it was a Mariner 2.5....

[/ QUOTE ]Oh, that's all right then. Just thought he looked a bit shifty when he said it had been in his locker for 3 years.

[/ QUOTE ] I believe Griff spent a great deal more dosh on Undina at a Swedish boatyard immediately after his Baltic cruise, before she came back to East Coast. Back then he complained about how long they were taking, and how much it was costing.

Having seen Undina's external condition, she is clearly a lot better than "restored", and could fairly be described as concours. On that basis I'm sure she'd be worth significantly more than Josephine's £145k asking price. There is obviously a limit, as I think you start to get very special and historic 50ft+ S&S and Fifes above £500k.

I found the program hugely entertaining - I was concerned that Rory and Dara would be as boorish as they were in the previous series, which I thought they completely ruined. So far though, they have been nearly as charming as Griff himself, and my entire family chuckled our way through the first episode.

I thought it was good entertainment for the masses, boaty or not, and only promoted our interest. I may be wrong though......

[/ QUOTE ]

I was embarrassed watching it. They all looked totally incompetent and a danger to themselves and the poor sailors around them.

Now Jo Public thinks saily types are bunch of up their arse idiots who haven't a clue what they're doing. Hang on a minute..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[1 - The MCA Islander aircraft is airborne pretty much all the time over the CNIS area - any unidentified yacht would be likely to get buzzed as it enters or transits the seperation zone,]

They were not near ANY seperation zone they came from the Swale & around South Foreland into Dover

Yes they were, in that sequence with the Islander they were off Dover, you could clearly see the cliffs between Dover and Folkestone. I live round here, I know the whole Kent coast extremely well.
As I mentioned before, the 3 of them did not, so far as I know (and I was involved) do any passages at all. They were filmed in the Thames, in the Swale at Harty, ashore at Hollowshore, then sailing off Dover.
It's meant as entertainment, if it was a 100% 'proper' sailing prog it would not be on prime time TV! Let's just enjoy seeing saily boats on TV for a change.

Here here to that!

Blimey, we are in danger of taking ourselves way too seriously here!

If we can't have a laugh at our own expense (or in this case like minded sailors) then what's the world coming to?

I agree with most of the comments; it was the best telly on over Christmas. It wasn't offensive, had some great footage of a beautiful yacht (which let's face it is hard to get) and was good harmless fun.
