I may have the oldest little diesel in captivity...1967. I can still hand start it but the coolant bores are full of limescale. Its rigid mounted, drives a fixed three blade prop on the quarter and is noisy.

Nanni or Beta here we come.. would welcome advice.

At the moment I am thinking 25hp with a 14" feathering prop and an Aquadrive.

The sterngear dates from the 1937 Kelvin.., would quite like to keep the A frame... ;)

Check very carefully that they will fit! Nanni is higher at the front, Beta wider at mid-length; both have different heights of mounts compared to MD2. I made cardboard cutouts to scale and compared with that of MD2 and tried to figure out what would happen when mounts were modified to the new heights. Tricky! Nothing really to choose between the engines. Sailorman, of this parish, very pleased with his Nanni which is allegededly better marinised. I was very pleased with a Beta which ticks over more sweetly. Remeber though that MD2 drives left handed, whilst Nanni and Beta right handed. You'll need a new propellor! (and if she is a Holman design with an offset propellor you need to speak to Nanni or Beta about running backwards to turn a left handed propellor)

Run backwards > fit a PRM hydraulic box they can run either direction

Thanks very much to both of you!

She's not a Holman, but is a sort of ancestor.. she's a William Blake...who taught Jack Jones... who taught Kim Holman

LH 15x 10 on port quarter at the moment... its tips are a bare half inch from the planking, so we need to go back down to 14" ... and stay with the left hand rotation!

Years ago I was shipmates, in a Taiwan built ketch, with a Perkins 4108 which had been marinised in Taiwan from a Spanish tractor engine and drove ahead through the astern train.. it was not at all happy and required an oil cooler.

You will need to go to the 28 to get the Hydraulic box (at least according to the price list). There is little to choose between the Beta and the Nanni, but the Nanni heat exchanger seems better and there are some detail differences such as oil extractor and positioning of airbox. I chose a Nanni when I went through the exercise, but colour was an influence!
