After much (painful) deliberation and as a result of a house move close to our marina, we've finally decided to let 'Lisilou' go and downsize to a MF 895.
A really hard decision as 'Lisilou' is a fantastic boat which has given us immeasurable pleasure over the last 4 years, allowing us to use her as a second home virtually every weekend.
Now that we've moved within spitting distance of our marina, we just don't need the 'home from home' space and accommodation the SC35 afforded us so...having spent all day at LBS the other weekend, we finally signed on the dotted line
for the new 895.
They reckon she''ll be ready sometime in November but I'm hoping it'll be sooner.
It'll be interesting to see how we (well, I) aclimatise to the smaller space but it made much more financial sense as our boating use will be quite different now.
It's a mistake to try to compare the two so I've had to train my thought process accordingly but from what I've read on here and spending hour upon hour looking at the layout and design of the MF, I think we've made the right choice.
We've opted for the single engine with bow thruster as I don't think there's much benefit to the twins with regard to manoeuvreability.
My one stipulation was that we go for the comfort package which will still give us the 'kick back and relax' option.
Mixed emotions...sad and excited.
Lisilou will be on her way to Burton Waters at some point over the following weeks.
Bye bye Lisilou and thankyou ??

Sad to downsize, but I think the Merry Fisher 895 is a cracking boat. The MF855 is very popular here in France and you are always sure to see one or more where ever you go. It seems to fit a niche market very nicely, Quicksilver also has a 855. The new 895 just seems more of a good thing. However if you did get two motors then you can get also an RCD of B so worth thinking about. Congrats on your new boat.
Some extra free advice: if you only have one motor make it a Honda

Thanks Bouba.
As far as I know, the only option as standard is a Yam.
The RCD I'm not worried about as coastal will suit us just fine.

I downsized from my Nimbus 320 to a Finnmaster 61CA when I retired a couple of years ago and, whilst I initially missed the space and comfort the Nimbus offered, I quickly realised the Finnmaster suited my new lifestyle perfectly.

I know you're downsizing for a different reason, Lisa, however I think you've made a great choice with the MF895, and I'm sure you'll have great fun in her.

Will you still keep your berth at Premier Swanwick?

Thanks Bouba.

I'm certain you could get any desired outboard make and model - their standard presumably just is what they've currently negotiated. Your benefit might be their experience on how to fit it neatly. Technically my belief is that the Yam is a good piece of kit, with service and parts available in most places.

That's good....I'll keep an eye out for your new MF895.....will she also be named 'Lisilou'?

Not sure on whether to keep the name or not ATM Allan. Was thinking 'Frank' would be apt given the down to earth and practical discussions Chris & I have had about it.
I take it you're berthed there too?

I guess so. We're happy to go with the Yam as we've no experiences to compare. Good to know it gets your thumbs up tho'...thanks Spi D.

Congratulations on getting your new boat. We're in the process of upsizing. From 10m to 11.5m. I'm hoping this move will be liberating for us because we'll be able to stay on board in comfort for longer and I'll hopefully feel safer at sea on some longer trips. We're only 4 years into our boating. Am I right in assuming those of you who are now downsizing have been everywhere and seen everything you want to?

Congratulations. November seems a long time to wait for delivery and perhaps not the best time of the year to take delivery. You will be boatless for this year then?
( I have been without a boat for just over a year but have not lost interest. Major downside for me is the weather in this country. I am tempted to get a smaller MF and berth it near Nice . Happily retired, travel time would not be a problem - although I might have to cut back a bit on my numerous other hobbies and activities ).

Hi Cathy.
I can't speak for anyone else but our choice to downsize is based purely on the fact that we now live so close to our marina that we simply won't need to stay onboard nearly as often, nor will we need the storage she offers. The MF will still allow us to do longer trips in relative comfort but such trips will only likely be once a year so it's not really much of a sacrifice.
Our boating consists mainly of short hops along the coast and overnighters as well as simply chilling in our home marina.

Thanks Beejay.
Hoping it will be sooner but that's the time scale we've been given.
Having just moved house, we're not too worried about being boatless for the season as we're just up the road now so we'll just make good use of 'Bob' our tender and no doubt do a fair few river treks up and down the Hamble. If we really feel the need to get out into the Solent...we can always charter a rib for a day out.
Win win I reckon.
Nice sounds like a good plan.

'Frank'....that would be a very apt name under the circumstances!! ?

Yes, I've been at Swanwick for the past 6 years or so, though I've been dry stacking my little 20ft boat for the past two years.

And there was me thinking you'd gone mad and bought an SC42, whereas instead, errm, yes...
895 is a great choice for that type/size of boat.
Can we assume you are going to be doing a lot more fishing? ;)

Dave, we always thought we'd upgrade to the 42 never downsize but Chris has always had a bit of a penchant for something with a wheel house altho' I was thinking more along the lines of a Swift Trawler 40+ or a Botnia Targa but nope...he's always liked the MFs and he's somehow managed to swing me to his way of thinking.
As for fishing...HE has visions of landing mackerel and bass etc...I, however, do not. I will win that war I can promise you ??.
Enjoying the 35 Dave?
