Timber yards\' colour codes
I notice that when I buy hardwood the sawn ends are often painted with different colours. Not only does this protect the end grain but it obviously identifies the species.
Question: Does each timber yard have it's own code or is there an industry standard colour-coding? If the latter, it would be useful to know what it is, for identifying odd pieces you might have lying around or that you get secondhand.
