Nope, but a damn good copy from M&S

just bought one having managed to lose two Tilley's over the years. It even has the float in the crown and a velcro pocket to keep things safe.

SWMBO won't let me wear a Tilley, with good reason, because they make me look even sillier, but I bought a similar hat in Millets recently which is dark green and suits me fine, and has a chin strap.

Wore the original last two days in Dun Laoghaire one of which was Bloomsday,so it was more practical than a straw model, in a cutting N wind.At least a good bowl of Dublin Coddle drove away most of the cold!much dressing up and odd UK personalities about,no doubt escaping from the trying brexit atmosphere, further sullied by a tragic murder.

The thread is not about the original, or Brexit, or murder.

M&S are good for hats. I'm not a hat person and I only got one for sailing in the sun but they have a good selection. Don't think mine is quite the one skyflyer posted but similar. Lighter than my Dad's Tilley (which is a good thing for me). "X-Large" is 7 1/2-7 5/8 (maybe other models are different) so they don't go as big as Tillies but as I generally want it jammed tightly on my head when sailing slightly small isn't too bad.

I need to wear a sunhats for good reasons - folicle issues and a history of skin cancer in my family.

I've tried almost every type available, including Tilley copies, but always got too hot hiking, or the thing shrank, so eventually bought a genuine Tilley, the lightweight one with mesh around the top. Superb bit of kit. Really!

We call them twatty hats, because, agreeing with you, they make people look like twits!

They'll never sell any; anyone who would want one already has one on the parcel shelf of their car.

They are already out of stock of the XL size.. I guess people from these forums have been buying them. XL is otherwise not a size that would sell out!

Does take a special sort of person to have the courage to wear one in public. The same sort that wears socks with sandals and has a collection of beige cardigans.

This thread is so revealing.

People don't wear something useful because they think it makes them look silly, or because they don't need to or prefer to wear something else for functional or aesthetic reasons.

But they can't leave it at that - they need to deride those who do wear such items at 'twats' or the suchlike - with no other qualifying insight into any of the wearers.

Then they get all excited because they find out they can buy a cheap copy!

I got one yesterday (XL) and have placed a piece of closed cell foam in the pocket, just in case it goes overboard. Luckily we don't get many elephants in Scotland.
It replaces a similar hat from Musto, IMHO the M&S one is better quality.
