Tie those dogs down

A chum of mine is currently on a cross channel ferry sheltering behind the IOW.

He swears they have just been overtaken by some pals in yachts with A22 on their unreefed mainsails

An old mate of mine chose this weekend for his first ever sailing outing, crewing to Cherbourg and back. "A right eye opener" was his description.

Port control were reporting 55kts at the entrance to Dover Harbour twenty minutes ago.

With a power cut affecting most of the ferry boat berths, so ferries can't unload, it is chaos right now.

You must be joking surely, sir!?! The A22 is the sailing equivalent of the X-1. First yacht to break the sound barrier, although it was hushed up a bit and has only come to general knowledge on this forum.

:D

Just as I've spent good beer money on a new boat cover! It's probably in Kent by now

The various cover manufacturers along the south coast are probably rubbing their hands together right now! There was at least one large and complex cover trying hard to shred itself on a yacht on the next but one pontoon a few hours ago - have not been back to see what state it is in now....

We had a cruise on a barge from Maldon yesterday. We didn't actually go out as intended, because of the threat of more wind but celebrated someone's birthday with lunch. The meal was pretty awful and I couldn't drink because I was driving. However, the RNLI benefitted a bit.

Visited my yacht on swinging mooring this afternoon. Discovered a very bent stainless steel bow roller assembly. Chain where it broke the tie down had come off the now angled roller and caused some damage to the grp. Looks like the grp under the mounting plate may have been crushed a little as well, Probably will be an insurance job. Probably happened when the yacht was swinging side to side when wind (50mph or so) against tide.

Ouch. You don't want that in the middle of a windy week.
Whereabouts are you in the harbour?
I'm in Sweare Deep and visited yesterday, fortunately everything looked okay ..... hope it stays that way.
