£2.50 per day for electricity!

Even at 10p per Kw that is 25Kw per day. An awful lot of electricity for a boat to consume in 24hrs. I was understood that providers were prevented by law from increasing the national tariff to caravaners, boatees etc? Or does £25 include the hire of a plug, which can be bought for less than a fiver?

Me thinks bit of a rip off!

They charge a normal tariff for electricity, but the rest is for the "facility" and use of the 4 pin plug without which you can't plug in. It's not compulsory to have it though.

From my experience in mainland Europe (but not Spain where it is less than €1 per day) water & electricity are included in the basic marina tariff.

Must admit, of late, I haven't been across The Channel.

I'll sell you some at 10p per kw/h, but you'll have to collect it yourself!;)
 
In Holland we often paid in a slot meter so the more kw you used the quicker it ran out or you told the HM your max kw usage and he charged accordingly and set the trip at that point. Seemed fairer than a flat rate unless you have an immersion, kettle and 240v fridge.

In Holland, leccy is often metered.
In Belgium and France, it's always included in the price of the berth.
Seems reasonable to me - when you're in a hotel room, you're not charged extra if you want to switch the light on. :rolleyes:
 
Just got here(Tidemill), it is without doubt a beautiful spot. 29-0 boat = 52.00 for 2 nights inc shorepower though! But hey, I'm on holiday so beer book and peanuts in the cockpit time :)
 
The Cherry Tree is within walking distance.....great selection of beer, come to think of it I think their beer festival starts this weekend!

Try Tidemill at Woodbridge, £25 plus £3.00 plus £20 deposit for hook up cable.

I cannot agree that the Cherry Tree is worth visiting unless you only like Adnams beer. There is often no alternative. Having spent 15 years visiting Woodbridge pubs the one with the consistently best condition beer, and by far the greatest choice, is the Old Mariner.

Further up the same road is the Olde Bell and Steelyard which also has good beer but a smaller selection.
 
Not sure about the Beer in the Cherry Tree as I normally drink cider.

We had some great fillet steaks in there in March.
The other meals looked good as well.

Tim (The Lurker) didn't make any comment about the couple of pints he had.

Will make sure we go there again when we are in Woodbridge for a few days.

A quarter of the ales on offer are Adnams and there is a predominance of Adnams beers on offer at normal times.
Then again, lots of people like Adnams.

The pub was taken over by new management earlier this year so maybe things are better now.
 
I suggest those who think 10p/kWh is the going rate for electricity nowadays take a look at their bills at home. Try dividing the total you pay (including the standing charge) by the kWh you consume.

Some boats turn up with a 3kW fan heater to save running their diesel heater. If they stop for 24 hours and leave the fan heater on that's 72kWh!
