Finally got some time to go sailing next week, so thought I might take a trip up to Woodbridge. Is it advisable to book a visitors berth at Tidemill?

Anyone else about next week?

Doubt you will need to book...unless the weather changes dramatically!!
We have already spent two weekends there this year - like it a lot!!
Check out live music at the Bell & Steelyard on Sat night - we saw a chap called Mickey Flynn - wizard guitar player!!

I seem them jam them in, rafted up by the entrance. We had to sit on a waiting buoy for an hour while they sorted it out. I ring them by phone when on the river as VHF doesn't often work until right there.

Plan is the Ore on Tuesday evening but the Tidemill is always tempting.

They normally raft up sailing clubs at the entrance, however singleton boats are normally found a berth. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for them to work out who is leaving and hence freeing up a berth. Not everyone leaves as soon as there is enough water some hang back a bit.

Visitors however tend to arrive on mass at the first point they can get over the cill.

They are actually very well organised and always answer their radio when there is enough water to get in. Outside that phone is probably best.

A short distance up the river is the Granary Yacht Harbour. Not as near the Woodbridge shops but in the evening it's one of the most peaceful spots on the river. Cheaper than Tidemill and the access is the same as the cill at TYH. The view is a bit better as well!

Tidemill very, very friendly and they prefer VHF to telephone when there's water over the cill as they're all out and about fitting visitors in. Either way Woodbridge is a great place to visit. I'm biased though :)

Ian - how was your recent trip to Shotley/Ipswich?....we had planned the same but due to the weather holed up at the Tidemill for the weekend!

Hiya

As always shotley is really good.
The showers there have been re-vamped and are prob the best on the East coast.

One thing I did notice was the increased amount of BADLY marked lobster pots atound Walton. I think if you go out as far as the Medusa you may well miss them.
However, they have now placed a couple of pots on your approach into the orwell.

This is the sort of thing you have to look out for, from the pic it's hard to judge its size..... but it was about the size of your fist!!
Unless calm and light - there is NO chance of seeing them!! I still can not believe there are no rules about clearly marking lobster pots - I guess thats a debate for another thread!!!

Well if you want the last word in space and luxury shower wise, you'll find the showers at North Fambridge hard to beat

There's room for the entire crew in each cubicle!
