We've just done Bahamas to North Carolina. Managed to avoided the worst of the lightning but sometimes the systems bubble up out of nowhere and there's not much you can do.
We don't have radar, but Starlink plus the weather radar overlay on Windy was very helpful. Only limitation of it was that during the heavier squalls the rain was so hard that we lost the Starlink signal.
As a child and a teenager, I loved the drama of a good thunderstorm. Then I was at home when our house got hit. A huge bang, and a 10-foot hole in the roof and the telephone in the hall (remember them?) was smouldering gently. Nest door's television was fried - the plug blown out of the socket, and all the wiring fried.
65 years on, I still get nervous when a storm gets too close.
