I have a throttle problem with my '97 Volvo MD22 in my Hunter 430. The engine will go into gear OK, but sometimes when I advance the throttle lever nothing happens and the engine stays at idle. if I move the throttle lever back and forth a few times, it will often engage and then will work normally. I don't see any external problems with the linkage. Any suggestions from anyone? It does this in both forward and reverse. I am afraid I will hit something when I lose throttle control at the worse possible moment. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Can you post a picture of the throttler control ?

I had exactly same situation with my throttle control ... it was the link lever that had sheered ..... you may not have exact same control - but the principle may be similar :

This is a very rare old model control teleflex a1#?
so whilst helpful it is perhaps a bit of a red herring in not what is fitted
an alternative possibility is if it a push to disengage gear type is either the red button is swollen or the edges of the slot that the pin engage in have been chamfered away
the button if it’s the problem could be replaced or short term removed but if It’s the slot problem them replacement unit required

Thanks for the suggestion, I believe the problem is in the engine as the throttle cable is moving OK when the lever is moved, but I will have my wife work the throttle lever while I watch the linkage to see if we can catch it misbehaving.
