Three overboard at Bradwell

Luckily a good outcome - but yet again the CG team from 15 miles away had to drive past the closed CG station 100 yards from the incident...

Tasked at 15:15 to reports of a capsized dinghy with 3 persons in the water near to Bradwell Marina to along with West Mersea Lifeboat Station - RNLI.
Casualties were recovered by lifeboat and taken to the marina office to warm up where they were assessed by Coastguard officers and deemed to be fit and well.
Team stood down.

Apparently the dinghy mast became stuck fast in the mud and it couldn’t be righted.

Hi, that Coastguard Rescue Team moved from Bradwell to South Woodham Ferrers and is now more central to the area they cover so reducing the average time to a callout.

Yes, I know - but the original plan before that was to have an IRT (smaller team) in Maldon and Burnham. The problem with SWF is that they are now at least 25 minutes from most of their incidents, especially as they are often backing up Southend or Canvey, and the next nearest team is at West Mersea.

If SWF are dealing with a joint job with Southend at, say, Shoebury, and something happens at either Burnham or Bradwell, any response is at least an hour away.

While the crew dealt with the 3 people, another boat tried to extricate the mast but it broke. Not the best afternoon.

Hmm.. SWF are a great team but they can only do what they can do... so many of the teams are being spread too thinly nowadays. Teams are working much more in pairs, which is really good, but it means running distances are doubling and (as a few times this couple of weeks) SWF, Southend and Canvey are on the same job - which leaves shell of a gap behind them.

I wasn't on that team, but was full-time with HMCG for a long time, including a stint at MRCC Thames.
