I was just thinking that peeps like russ who posts about a boat he might be buying , they want help and sound advice, not changing the thread or being rude ,it must put peeps off posting which would be tragic for the forum. SS

Yes i agree unfortunately more often these days threads degenerate into personal remarks and negative comments on the poster which can easily be construed as rude .
If only folks would stick to the subject matter at hand adding a bit more usefully to the rest of the followers , sharing experience etc .
It does not matter if it’s a polar opposite view , misguided view etc , still interesting to hear imho .
One expects simple robust explanations without personal derogatory comments or inferences .

Most of my opinions are now kept to myself as I have become fed up with being attacked, although this disease is notably worse on the PBO forum than here. Sad thing is if every one stops posting these forums die, and it takes just a few crass responders to have the ill effect.

I’ll remember never to bother with the PBO forum then .

Sadly the moderators seem to think it is acceptable.

Things that used to be on the forum have already moved to various Facebook groups ( who moderate actively ) where you can all benefit from modern software and simple posting of images etc. Looking up past posts is however far harder.

Examples are the Fairline forum ( many on here are on it and now use it for Fairline issues and discussions). Mallorca boating forum. Likewise other forum members now use that resource. There will be many more I assume.

It is a shame YBW are happy to allow a valuable forum to both ybw and its members to be diluted by trolling behaviour and personal attacks. It would suggest they place no value on it which as our host is of course their perogative. Odd but it’s their forum.

While I agree wholeheartedly that useless comments (let alone offensive ones) bring zero contribution to the forum, I wouldn't be too worried.
Pretty much in the same way as it happens in a pub, it doesn't take a lot to recognize posts and posters worth considering.
The pointless comments of Bigplumbs against Rubberduck in the oil analysis thread are a great example.
For any regular among us, they do absolutely nothing to kill the forum.
They just reconfirm an already well established idea of the character behind a username.

If you can be bothered and I suspect you cannot look back at the number of threads I have started and the amount of discussion that has been generated. You might also look at where I have been attacked by the same individuals. Mr Duck and yourself being some of those such attackers. I am afraid some people simply cant stand being told the truth and feel that because of some position in the world they think they hold they are somehow immune, Make of it as you will. I tell it like I see it I will not run with the crowd or indeed hide in the shadows. There is always an opposite.
view perhaps people need to look at that sometimes

When you speak about insults do you include people calling other people Trolls or does that not apply

Happy Boating

I really think there needs to be a bit of give and take. This is a social forum and a community. If you want Boat-diesel, pay the subscription, fill your boots, great source of quality info, very topic and thread focused and not a shred of personalisation, trip reports or god forbid any shred of emotion and consequently as bland as spent gum. Not a place I go unless I am looking for very specific detail. And not a place I'd dare post up "what's to do in Barcelona" either. Roy, I take the mickey out of you, we are friends, do you consider that thread drift and rude?

It certainly is normally more civilized in here than Scuttlebutt, at least when the oversized fruit isn't about, but occasional sheer idiocy can't really be a cause for expulsion or things would end up rather anodyne. There is after all the ignore function, albeit that only partially works.

with you coming from another ocean I forgive your lack of etiquette , and I do not judge ,but when some one is bending down to help me ,it has to be the right person, if you get my drift

Not necessarily. Why should that qualify as an insult, when it's true?
You can't expect to be the only one who tell it like you see it, you know.

Btw, why are you so obsessed by the idea that some posters might have reached "some position in the world"? That ain't necessarily a crime.
Not that I'm claiming to be one of them, mind. But if debating with folks wealthier than myself would make me feel frustrated, I'd rather attend some housewives forum...

I often think that there are many views on many things and people operate mainly on ego, where there are two or more thoughts then an ego or two comes in and it is turned into an unnecessary argument supported by a view and an argument to try to substantiate that view.

In much the same way, there may be two or more ways to do a specific job and one poster would have done it one way and another poster would have done it another way, and both argue that only there way is correct and try to win a pointless argument as both ways are correct.

You don't seem to understand the concept of an insult. Even if something is true or not a statement can still be an insult..... A person can be exceedingly fat but calling them so is still most possibly insulting.

As for people reaching certain positions again whether true or not does not in my view give them the right to preach to others.

I have no issue with wealthy people provided it does not carry with it arrogance

Also in your post above you have been insulting to housewives suggesting that in some way you are better than them. I suspect however you don't realise your insult

I guess this thread has proved seastokes point... I don't post that often.. but I read the forums a couple of times a day and I have to say the last few months I have been thinking twice about posting for this very reason. I just want an answer and opinions even if they are polar opposite to mine. Generally I want the answer fairly quickly

Everyone is entitled to an opinion which is the beauty of forums.. you get lots of options from those opinions. It does seem unfortunately that in some threads lately that's a persons opinions are jumped upon and shut down via personal remarks.

It won't stop me posting and I know noone on here so I can't make assumptions about anyone....but it does make me think twice if I want all the carp that ends up going with it. I do think most other forums would delete the posts or at least moderate.
