Am planning on replacing my fuel water separator to a Racor and was wondering if thread sealant is required on the new barbs/ Hose connectors?
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

It's well over ten years since I fitted a Racor fuel filter and new copper fuel lines. I didn't use any sealant and it has never leaked. Compression fittings and hose connections in good condition don't need sealants.

Do you mean on the threads of the barb fitting? No form of sealant should be required on the barb-to-hose seal. However, it's better to use the correct type of hose clamp rather than a worm-drive (aka 'Jubilee'-type) clamp, such as this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIKALOR-...-WATER-CLAMP-DIESEL-JCS-JUBLIEE-/222500358544

Note that such clamps have a smaller range of adjustment than worm-drive clamps and will need specc'ing to the particular application.

It's a few years since I replaced one of my 500FGs but I recall that the inlet and outlet ports were 3/4 - 16 UNF. However, I don't recall any o-rings or gaskets so I'm thinking that they were taper fittings and I would have used PTFE tape rather than any sealants.

Getting the correct fittings to go from the UNF ports down to fuel barbs was a bit of a pain but Hyphose sorted me out.

If you need a definitive answer come back and I'll check what I actually bought from them.

The threads, not the barb to hose side.
I was thinking PTFE but was worried about the effect of diesel on it?!
