It is not a 2030 which did not come in until the late 1980s. 1972 will be an old style heavy thumper (probably an MD2), normally to be avoided like the plague as spares are virtually non existent. OK if you already own it and can keep it running, but not the sort of thing one would choose to buy.

If it is a 2030 then an excellent engine, although also getting a bit long in the tooth having been out of production for nearly 20 years. However there are thousands still around and being essentially a Perkins industrial engine with fresh water cooling has a long design life and spares are readily available.

Didn't we have this discussion before? I have a vague recollection that the engine pictured was incorrectly described. (Perhaps that was a different boat, but perhaps not?)

We need to see a picture of the engine to see whether it actually is a 2030 (which is a 29hp 3 cylinder motor).
No this is another vessel with what looks to be a clean installation and the whole boat has been revamped.I was looking at two other boats of the same model but this is new on the market in Vigo. Will take a look……..don’t get your hopes up…yet😂

Getting a bit long in the tooth? A 20 year old engine in leisure boat use might just about be run in!

It might, but depends on the pattern of usage. Many charter boats in the Med from 20 or more years ago will have been re-engined now. Also if the engine, particularly the cooling and exhaust system is neglected can be uneconomic to repair long before the design life of the basic engine is reached.

Poor selection and qualitiy of photos, but boat seems to have care applied and upgrades made. (y)

I've said before I have a soft spot for these earlier Baroudeurs.

Here's the engine. I'm not familiar with these models but looks very tidy. Looks to me that it could be a twin (2020?), rather than triple, but might just be the angle etc.

My 2030 dates from 2000. It had a lot of use for the first 15+ years, which is all to the good, and been carefully looked after since in spite of a smaller hourage. I don't see why it shouldn't go on for another 20 years.

That looks like a Perkins version which is painted that colour, or has just been repainted before installation. The air intake is non standard, but probably because the normal one pokes out at the back of the head and may foul something we can't see. Definitely a 3 cylinder - you can see 3 fuel pipes to the injectors. Far too powerful for the boat but will trickle along nicely.

If the rest of the boat is as good as the engine looks then likely to be a better bet than some of your non purchases! Don't expect sparkling sailing performance though.
