How do I get to add a picture next to my name (I know, –I’m a jealous and shallow person, but I want one)

I’ve looked at the instructions that tell me nothing and I’ve seen the box that says ‘if I wish to add a picture, enter its URL’ (does that mean the picture I wish to add must reside in the net?) Please give any instruction as if you where talking to someone who had never used a computer.
I’ve already tried every which way I can think off to no avail and I’m in danger of crying.

Firstly , yes the picture must be on the net.
Then when you have the url of the picture you want, click on User Options towards the top of the page in centre. This takes you to a new screen. There are three edit buttons on the right side. Click on the one next to 'personal information' This takes you to a new screen. Scroll down, and very neare the bottom is a box into which you can type the url (or paste it if you've already copied it)

Thanks Brendan

I’ve uploaded a picture into one of those Yahoo online albums them clicked on the thumbnail to view it. Once it’s on the screen I’ve then copied and pasted the URL into the box and as you can see all that appears is the small white square with a X in it.
I’m thinking:

1. Maybe the URL I’m seeing at the top of the screen relates to the Whole Yahoo page and not just the photo it’s displaying.
2. Could it be the size of the pic is too big?

Any more thoughts?

I’m cheering up a bit now.

Send me a PM with the URL you have used and I will do my best to tell you what the problem is.

I have tried to access your picture without success as it is password protected. That, I think, is the first and greatest problem. The picture must be on a freely-available site.

There is a forum member who runs a commercial site here on which he has devoted a section for forum members to store their personal forum pictures. Go to the site and work your way via Photo Gallery & Boaters Albums to Album: Profile-Pics. You can use the button at the top to add your picture to the site.

The picture can be a jpeg or a gif but it must only be 65x75 pixels. That is pretty small. However, if you have access to image editing software you can manipulate your image to suit.

BTW, my image is a 'transparent gif' which is why you do not see a square boarder around it.

Brendon

I copied and pasted the URL you posted and had this result:

We encountered a problem. The reason reported was:

Improper picture type.

As I've just mentioned in a PM to Medman, I noticed all the others pictures are GIFs and the one I uploaded was a JPEG (yahoo do not accept GIFs) I'm now wondering where I could up load a GIF too.

Cheers

Colin

Not sure about password protected, I got staright to it by taking url from right clicking on the image that wasn't displaying (it was a web page not an image) but once there, have posted the actual picture url for him to try.

Right, sorry should have checked - just had a closer look ,. In simple terms they don't want you to link to pictures as it impacts theri dservers, so they 've done some clever stuff with putting additional information needed to get to the picture after the .jpg bit

This will stop you putting the url into most software including this site.

You need to post the image someone a little more friendly to hosting pics, and Boatones site that med man mentioned is by far your best bet. Read the instructions that Boatone has posted on the image forum first

Thanks for the help Brendon and Medman, once I’ve resized the picture I’ll save it where Medman suggested and Hey presto ! I need not be sad anymore.
