Thornycroft 90 cylinder head

Hi,
Does anyone know where I could get a cylinder head for my Thornycroft 90 (BMC 1500 diesel).

Thanks,
Barry

Have you tried Thornycroft they still carry a lot of spares, got a new waterpump from them last year. Also there are a few places who still do recon engines (a lot of barges were fitted with that engine) also have a look around the vintage tractor sites as well. You also see bits and whole engines on ebay

Thanks for replies, I should have said that Thornycroft didn't have one but are keeping their eyes open for me.
Am also watching Ebay and tractor/barge sites.

Not sure - it has cracks radiating from four of the valve guides. They are not leaking coolant (yet) but I am concerned they may propagate and lead to future problems.

Thanks,
I was waiting until Monday to start ringing around.
Most reconditioners want a head that they can recondition in exchange but may sell one outright.
The Canal Junction list looks promising.

The guys at Cylinderheads.co.uk (Bridges) wanted my old head, not sure what for though as it had cracks where the valve inserts were fitted.

I am sure your head does not have inserts so it may be possible to stitch weld the cracks

See this site

I did think of stitch welding but the cracks are under the valve springs and the guides would need drifting out then the cracks repaired and the guides reinstalled.
It would only be possible to repair the surface and not the full depth.
The risk would be the cracks reoccurring when the guides were drifted back in.
I will certainly talk to castironweldingrepairs.co.uk and see what they say.
