This website keeps freezing - Is it me?

The Firefox popup blocker doesn't stop the ad's. A quick check using the task manager, with and without the ad' blocker, shows that the ad's are not only using the main CPU, but they also impose a noticeable load on the graphics engine.

I'd suggest you both try uBlock and see what difference it makes, easy to remove it if you don't like it.

I definitely will take yours (and others) advice to install a blocker.

Five minutes ago I was looking at SSD (Solid State Drive) to use instead of the electro/mechanical disc drive. I can't believe how incredibly cheap they are.$115 for 500GB. I have to do more research to get a better understanding.

Fantastic things! I have one in my iMac, it's lightning fast, quiet and reliable.

Good advice, I've been using uBlock for ages and this site would be hopeless without it. I'm surprised that advertisers don't try the websites they place ads on - if they looked at YBW they'd stop paying for ads rapidly!

There was an issue a few days ago where a Firefox update disabled almost all addons, my adblocker included. I found the internet was almost unusable, everything is so much slower, and i have a powerful modern PC.

From a user perspective they look the same as a traditional hard drive, but they are very fast and silent. They do use less power too. My "ships" computer is a recent Dell laptop, it has a 256gb SSD and a 2TB disk drive. The OS and all software is on the SSD (only takes up 60gb), so everything runs really fast, whilst the 2TB HDD is great for storing files. Works really well.

I also have a Dell 7290 for work, mostly for onboard network or heating diagnostics, but also great for when i'm away on bigger jobs in distant locations, where i have to stay in a hotel. It's powerful and fast enough for streaming stuff on the net or doing any of the things i can do on the ships computer, but nicely portable. This one is "only" fitted with a 256gb SSD.

Go get one :encouragement:

That is what I was thinking just a few minutes ago. These sites and sites like Facebook, YouTube and Yahoo make money out of businesses advertising on their sites. What are advertisers going to do if they find we all have advt blockers? It is a fair bet they will stop advertising so we'll have to pay if we want to use email, listen to music, do searches etc

But I think they'll have a tough job as we have all come to expect everything is free on the Internet.

Lots of sites now detect adblocking and ask you to turn it off if you want to access the site.

Deliberately, I've not implemented any of the good remedies suggested, just to see if things changed anyway. They have. This morning there is no flickering or freezing! I'll log on again in 24h to re-check . Has YBW done something?

But, thinking things over re. Adblockers, I haven't seen ANY ads on the forum since this saga began (and maybe before that). I haven't consciously implemented an adblocker ever, so, unless Microsoft or AVGfree are blocking ads, what is?

Bemused but happier
Cheers
Bob

The is actually a separate Forum News and Feedback Forum which might be more helpful?
I can report that in the last few days this site freezes my computer. I haven't changed anything. There have been 2 minor updates
from Microsoft very recently. W10 with their browser, E?
Mouse pointer freezes solid if I leave the site open and unused for a few minutes. I have resorted to unplugging (desktop) twice.
Seems a little better this morning, will wait and see.
EDIT: something mighty odd is happening to this site and no other. I have to restart computer after YBW keeps jamming up.
Will come back later haven't got time for this right now.
Another vote for something weird happening, locking up and crashing and losing long posts! Safari on new mini Ipad

I'll try again: it just crashed as is becoming quite normal.
For a site like YBW to be flashing advertisements every second or so must be an incredible waste of broadband. Maybe someone can see the stupidity of what is going on and they are trying to fix it.

(Better submit before it crashes again)

I'm using Safari on a Macbook Pro and almost every time I access this site the computer fan speeds up within a minute, the computer get uncomfortably hot and everything slows down. This site is about the only one where this happen.
I hate it and has becoming a major reason for staying away.
Today, it works fine.

This morning there is still some flickering of the reload icon and in the bottom left of the screen.
I have emailed using 'contact us' to ask for an investigation, mentioning that the problem is unique, in my case, to ybw.com
Cheers

I usually view PBO on my phone and don't experience any particular problems. I could install an adblocker but feel that as advertising pays for it, it's disingenuous using one. The bombardment with adverts doesn't bother me that much. It sounds like people who have most problems are using laptops or desktops with Firefox - maybe they'd do better with smartphone and chrome.

Everyone is having issues.

There is a post on the Mobo forum about missing posts and I raised a back button issue on the technical forum only to be shot down in flames by a Forum member who seems to have self appointed himself as a technical expert.

Ybw do not bother to reply or do anything which is pretty shocking.

Just a quick update:-

No reply from YBW received
Also Firefox 67 introduced new blocking (the description does not specifically mention adverts). But, clicking on the 'shield' to the LHS of the URL display gives the option of unblocking all temporarily. Doing this allows the adverts to appear and the site 'flickering' calms down.
Sorry if the old news to anyone.
Cheers
Bob

I am 100% in agreement with you regarding ad -blockers because it is the advertisers that give me free email, music, forums, movies, shopping, news, research material etc etc.
It is only this site that gives problems. I have complained to Firefox and plenty of people have complained to YBW. I sometimes wonder whether anyone is at the helm of SS YBW.COM? (Seriously!) Maybe an announcement is in the wind?
