Had last night in Yarmouth, which was quiet boat wise, only one other mobo visiting, and probably no more than 20 yachts, but very noisy on the wind front, it absolutely howled through all night.

We wouldn't have bothered normally, but we had pre-paid our mooring, and booked a table at the George to celebrate my 50th, so felt obliged to go.

I have to confess to being slightly apprehensive when casting off about 9.45 this morning but we needed to get back to The Hamble.

I really hope the pictures work.

It started out great and we were cracking on at 25 knots, but as we turned towards Calshot the holes got a bit bigger and we backed off to around 20 knots. We didn't see another mobo all the way back, and in fact only saw a couple of handfuls of our rag and stick bretheren.

Still cruised with the roof wide open and not a drop of the salty stuff inside. Getting back into our mooring was interesting but we got back safe and sound.

Niel,

Congratulations on your 50th birthday!

We were walking at Stokes Bay this afternoon and it had turned much rougher in the Solent than shown in your pictures. I didn't see any mobos out at all, but the odd largish yacht all heading towards Southampton having what looked from the shore to be a pretty unpleasant time. I certainly would not have wanted to be out an about in that wind, it looked like a F7 to me.

I wonder how much marinas are down this yr in visitor berths, I was at boat today doing a few jobs but no way could I get to the Solent,

it's looking hopeful Thursday may get out back sunday then on return we plan to take tender and sun pad cushion off and put in storage for winter.

Congratulations on the 50th birthday . I think the wind and tide conspired to give you a present this morning , middle of the flood with 30 mph wind blowing in the same direction and i think that looked quite pleasant ;):D . Ive done the same journey with less wind but same tide in the opposite direction and had the stuffing knocked out of us :o . Live and learn eh .

Wouldnt mind betting the solent is an unpleasant place this morning! Can't quite see it from my house but having just walked the dogs I can hear the wind howling!!

Congratulations on the birthday! Hope the george was good!!!
