The UK is the only country in Europe where no insurance is required. Is it not about time that it became compulsory to carry this insurance? I would be pretty pissed off if I was hit by some pennyless matelot who couldnt afford to pay for the damage.

Sounds good to me - but how do you enforce it? Could be the start of the reguated world that some people seem to scream about.

I can see your point Chris.

Making this mandatory would extend a captive market.

But before we give the insurance industry the green light on higher and higher insurance premiums via the "claim culture" shouldn't we try to find out/estimate how many times an accident occurs where the culprit is uninsured.

So - who's suffered and accident and been unable to gain redress from the culprits via an insurance claim?

I should add that I do have insurance!

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that in the event that that happens, your own insurance company will cover your repair costs and sue the uninsured perpetrater of the damage?

I suppose anything like this has to be regulated. typical example is making hunting illegal - how ever much you may agree with it - the idea is just stupid asn who is ging to enforce it (not the police - they have already said they cannot)

So the whole concept is dead before starting!

but then again - if the government licensed our sport they could collect a revenue which would pay for an enforcing agency to make sure we had filled out all the forms.
