Braved the icy east wind howling across the desolate wastelands of Burnham on Crouch to visit the Marina office.
About 20 boats from Rochester Cruising Club will be bringing a little class to Essex over the Easter holiday.:)
Just out of interest and to find something to do while up there attempted to find somewhere close by to visit.
North Fambridge appears to be a boat yard in the middle of a marsh.
South Woodham Ferrers appears to be a town built in the 2000s trying hard (and not very well )to look olde.
Have I missed somewhere actually nice closebye. :)

Seriously the Rio is a great little cinema - latest releases about a week later than the main chains and seats for around £3. Rio's tapas bar is a great place to eat - 20 boats will just about fill it. Favorite Indian Restaurant is Spice Fusion at the top of the High Street although for Chinese the Golden Dragon is the only sit down Chinese and again with 20 boats you'll probably be the only people in the restaurant - they depend on the takeaway trade. Food is great though. Good pub food at the Ship. Posh nosh is the Soul if you're feeling flush.

I would have thought dredging would be finished by Easter. Last week it looked like some of the pontoons were being put back

Anybody point me in the direction of a marina/berthing plan for Burnham.
The thought of 20 ancient overtired stroppy olde skippers careering up and down the pontoons trying to find the correct berth fills ME with terror.:)

Berth aisle letters are clear on piles at entrance. Berth numbers start high at river reducing towards shore, number on end of each finger, except where missing. Letter refers to one side of a main pontoon only ie A/B is one pontoon, C/D is next.

I agree with all these recommendations, and would add:

- 'The Oyster Smack' is at least on a par with The Soul, for posh nosh
- 'Sergeant Pepper's' diner is always lively, friendly and serves good steaks and ribs
- 'The Queen's' is a proper beer drinkers pub, with darts and pool.

Thanks to all who replied. We have around 30 boats signed up ranging from 9 to 17 metres. Should be good outing.
Burnham seems always very pleased to see visiting boaters. Even ones from Kent.:)
