So stick with Anchorplait? I've also noticed that Boatropes sells 'Dockline' so I have enquired about that too

Rope in the washing machine?! That's the last place i'd think of putting it!

Need to be thicker than yer fan belts but not as thick as hlb.

OOPS! Sorry,----- not as thick as hlb's plywood screws /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oi! They weren't *my* belts, I just happen to be the one kicked into the engine bay to fix the mess /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

12mm would be more than adequate, strength wise - 10mm would probably be so as well, but as has been said above it's a bit thin to handle.
Similarly braid would be nicer for her to handle
So, 12mm braid is the best for you IMHO. 16mm is far too big.

MF has a strange mixture of 12mm braid and 25mm twisted stuff. She weighs 8 tons. The 12mm stuff is fine for normal use, would not use it in a storm.
For a 23ft boat it will be more than enough.

Thanks for the info guys, it's good to know.

When you say braided, I know what you mean, but what material should I be looking for, or does it only come in one material? IIRC I remember seeing some on boats before, it was a matt colour and had a little bit of 'spring' in it?

Boatropes from eBay got back to me very promptly with a reasonable quote for 13mm Dockline, it looks just the type of rope i'm after and he will loop it for me. It's going to look like this except in navy:

Thanks for the help guys

Will send him off an e-mail right now, thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

-EDIT- Boatropes come in at a whopping 19 pence cheaper than Outdoor Xscapse for the exact same product. I'm going to go with Boatropes since he has spent some time e-mailing me etc (Not to mention the whopping price difference /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif)

In fairness to Outdoor Xscape they have a good online shop meaning you could place an order without ever needing to email/contact anyone so had Boatropes not gotten back to me my business would have been with Outdoor Xscape

Thanks all for the help

Just got a price from JimmyGreen ropes - TWICE the price of Boatropes, BEFORE postage.. and thats with a 20% discount from JimmyGreen

It pays to shop around guys!

are you sure its really the same rope? Just because its the same size and material, doesnt mean its the same.
Still, unless absolute breaking strains are relevent to your boating, I wouldnt really worry what you buy from 10mm +.

Good info with regards to cleaning, thanks.

The rope I ended up getting was Dockline, 13mm which is the pic above. Think I got 22metres overall, 3 splices, delivered to Ireland for £51
